Mr. Melvin Lamar Tucker, 72 of Newtown Rd., Washington, Ga. entered into rest on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Augusta University Hospital, Augusta.
Mr. Tucker, son of the late Bennie Lee and Mary Tolbert Tucker, was born in Clarke County, Ga. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Wilkes County and he graduated from Washington Wilkes High School in 1965. He began his career around 1970 with the Georgia State Patrol as a radio operator and retired in 1997 as a trooper first class. Known as one of the best luthiers in the bluegrass community, his mandolins and guitars were true works of art. He was a true craftsman with many talents.His interests included farming, gardening and he was of the Baptist faith. His favorite saying was, “If it was easy, everybody would be doing it!”
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Anthony Tucker; sons, Brad Tucker and his wife, Vonnie, and Kevin Tucker and wife, Lori; brother, Randy Tucker and wife Mable all of Washington; sister, Brenda T. Danner and husband David of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Kolbi Tucker, Justin Tucker, Jake Tucker, and Barrett Tucker.
There are no plans for a memorial service at this time.
