Martha S. Mayo 1917-2018
Mama departed this life on February 11, 2018, just 11 days shy of her 101st birthday. She was at home surrounded by her loving family, who has cared for her the past 5 years.
She was a native of Wilkes County, Georgia, but had lived in the Cadley Community in Warren County, Georgia for the past 68 years.
Mama’s arrival in Heaven completed her family circle. She was greeted by her Savior, her parents, Thomas C. and Sarah W. Smallwood, and 10 siblings.
Also preceding her to her Heavenly home was her husband, Thomas Parham (T.P.) Mayo; a daughter Laverne Adams; and son-in-law Roger W. Kennedy.
Mama was the oldest member of New Providence Baptist Church in Cadley. She loved gardening- flowers and vegetables, and enjoyed raking her yards until age 96. Mama’s joy was her family, and maintaining her home for her children and grandchildren to congregate. Every holiday found her home overflowing with family and laughter. Mama’s best advice for her family was, “Just be nice”.
Left to treasure her memory are Lawrence and Lorene Mayo; Carolyn and Marion Powell; Gloria and James Clark; Mary Kennedy; Donna and Rob Lorentz; and Roy Adams. She was Granny Mayo to numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Friends and family will be received at Beggs Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 13, 6:00-8:00 p.m. The celebration of her love and life will be on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14, in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the New Providence Baptist Church cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
Mama, your influence will forever live in our hearts and lives. You will always be our Valentine.
Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Rd., Thomson, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
