Mrs. Mamie Neil Reed

Mrs. Mamie Neil Spires Reed, 86, of Soap Creek Lodge Road, Lincolnton entered into glory on February 24, 2018, at her residence.
Mrs. Reed, daughter of the late William Henry and Zackie Wright Spires, was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County. She had been employed as a bookkeeper and secretary at Reed Poultry for 18 years and then Spratlin Hardware for over 15 years. Most importantly, she was a devoted member at Pine Grove United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. She was a Sunday School teacher, United Methodist Women president, treasurer, church historian and trustee. Mrs. Reed was instrumental in organizing the church bicentennial celebration and she wrote and directed the Christmas play several years. With the most loving heart, she supported every pastor that served Pine Grove United Methodist Church with many meals, babysitting their children, and treating them as her own family. She devoted much of her life to her sister, Elizabeth Fleming, who lived with her for many years. Preceding her in death was her husband of 43 years, James Allen Reed, and brothers, William “Bill” Spires, Jr. and Maurice Rhodes Spires.
She is survived by her sons, Donald Wayne Reed and wife, Susan of Martinez; James Neal Reed and wife, Paige of Lincolnton; sister, Elizabeth Spires Fleming; grandchildren, Rex Allen Reed, Thomas Clayton Reed, Carolyn Michelle Tena and husband, Bryan, Andrea Elizabeth Reed, and Audra Neil Reed; great- grandchildren, Trent, Grace, Savannah, and Keegan; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and her Australian shepherd, “Copper”.
Serving as pallbearers are Donald Reed, Neal Reed, Tom Reed, Rex Reed, Brent Pullen, Hawes Reed, Melvin Harris, and Wes Gardner.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 3:00 pm at Pine Grove United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
