Mr. John Charles Thornton, Jr., 78 of Augusta Hwy., Lincolnton entered into rest on Friday, February 16, 2018 at his residence.
Mr. Thornton was born in Soperton, grew up in Thomson and had lived in Lincolnton since 1961. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 until 1967, and was employed by Ashmore Logging Co. Following retirement, he assisted his wife in operating Jericho Florist.
He was an active member of Martin’s Crossroads Congregational Holiness Church where he had served in numerous capacities including, 25 years as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Men’s Brotherhood, Deacon, and 12 years as Foreign Missions Board member. His parents, John C. and Frances Elizabeth Harbin Thornton, Sr., and sister, Joyce T. Dent, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Josephine Ashmore Thornton; sons, Chris Thornton and wife, Meredith, and Brad Thornton; daughter, Fran T. Willingham and husband, Jimmy; stepmother, Lois Thornton; sister, Nancy T. Goldman and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, A.J. Thornton, William Thornton, Dawn T. Anderson and husband, Nick, Cole Thornton, Jacob Harmon and fiancée, Kimberly Reed, Jenna H. Aycock and husband, J.L., Sydney Thornton, and Synclaire Thornton; great- grandchildren, Archie Thornton, Kate Anderson, Charles Lang Aycock, Parker Thornton, and Carter Thornton
