Guy Hartwell Shivers, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 19, 2018.
Guy was born July 31, 1926, in Norwood, GA to the late Guy Hartwell Shivers, Sr. and the late Christine Shelton Shivers. He was a graduate of the University of GA in Athens with a BS in Dairy Science and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After college, he joined his dad to work on the cotton and cattle farm; later owning and managing a dairy business and two cotton gins. In 1948 Guy married Ann DeBeaugrine of Warrenton, GA and after building his new bride a house; they became parents to Charles and Susan. Guy was an active, life-long member of Prospect United Methodist Church in Norwood, GA where he was a Sunday School teacher and Song Leader. He also served as a member of the Warren County Board of Education for ten years. A man of many talents, Guy enjoyed market trading during retirement. Indeed, he did spend his life supporting his family and enhancing the lives of everyone he encountered. A true hero and generous Southern gentleman; he leaves behind many who will miss him. In addition to his parents, Guy is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann DeBeaugrine Shivers, his son, Charles Hartwell Shivers, and his grandson, Benjamin David LaRue.
He is survived by a dear and special friend, Ava Dunaway, of Warrenton and a daughter, Susan S. Larue and husband, David, of Midlothian, VA, and a daughter-in-law, Diane Shivers, of Brunswick, GA. He is further survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Charles and Krista Shivers, Donalo and Vido of Carmel, CA, John and Brandi Shivers, Eve of Warrenton, GA, and Andrew and Adrienne LaRue, Benjamin and Baby coming in May of Salt Lake City, UT.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Saturday, March 24 at the Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, GA 30824. Guy's funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Prospect United Methodist Church, Norwood, GA with the Rev. Don Richards and the Rev. Brandon Furr officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Warrenton City Cemetery, Warrenton, GA.
