Mr. David James Weir, 86, entered into rest February 22, 2018.
Dave was born in the small town of Ashland, Wisconsin in November 1931. He was the youngest child in a family of seven brothers and sisters. He was a true depression era baby but had a strong family with deep ties to the Catholic Church. Dave was a graduate of Northland College and immediately after, served our country in the Army during the Korean War. Thomson residents will remember Dave from his association and ownership of Scotty McDuffie Ford which he ran for many years. Most that know him well simply remember him as “Scotty”, which he enjoyed. After leaving the new car business in 1976, Dave continued his automobile career by opening Thomson Auto Auction, which provided auction services to regional auto dealers and car wholesalers. As he approached retirement, and until age 75, Dave worked in several local dealerships as a salesman to remain close to the business he loved and the people that kept him young at heart.
Dave is survived by his wife of 61 years and high school sweetheart, Betsy J. Weir; brother, Jack Weir sons, Bryan J. Weir, Paul D. Weir; and grandchildren, James Weir, Debra Weir, Virginia Weir and Thomas Weir and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Junior Weir, Bill Weir and Tom Weir and sisters, Margaret Weir and Bonnie Weir.
A time of visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Rd., Thomson, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
