Cleo Rayfield Obituary

Cleo Quinton “C.Q. Rayfield

Warrenton, GA-Cleo Quinton (C.Q.) Rayfield, 98, passed away on November 19 at Westwood Extended Care.  He was born February 20, 1920, in Alabama, and was raised on a farm with five brothers and a sister near Stewartville.  He served in the Army in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II.

After the Army, C.Q. started work in bridge construction.  His travels brought him to Warren County, GA where he met and was married to the late Eugenia Abbott for almost 49 years.  He transferred to the Georgia Railroad, and they built a home and settled in Warrenton.  C.Q. loved working for the railroad, and was instrumental in getting several relatives and local young men jobs, also.  After retiring in 1983, he loved tending his yard in Warrenton and having time with relatives.  He played guitar for many years, and always enjoyed visits home to Alabama which included much talk and laughter, music and singing.  He volunteered several years with Golden Harvest Food Bank, and enjoyed helping others. He was an active member of Shoals Old Line Primitive Baptist Church for a number of years.

C.Q. was lucky in love twice, and married the late Nina Walden of Thomson when both were 78.  They had several happy years together with local friends and relatives often gathering for pot luck suppers and fun.  He loved God, his family and friends, and had a great sense of humor.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Auvenshine (late Robert) of Augusta, a son Michael Rayfield of Atlanta, numerous nieces and nephews.  The family would like to request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Shoals Old Line Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Donald Brewer, 4878 Ansley Road, Warrenton, GA  30828, or to the Alzheimers Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, 17th Floor, Chicago, IL  60601.  The family would also like to thank the many kind caregivers over the past nine years at Thomson Health and Rehabilitation and Westwood Extended Care for their loving care of our loved one.

Funeral services will be held in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 23 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Sandy Heslop officiating.  The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Beggs Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of C.Q. Rayfield.
