Benjamin E. Free, Sr.
Norwood, GA. - Mr. Ben Free, 91, entered into rest February 23, 2018.
Mr. Free was born in Cornelia, Georgia and the son of the late John E. Free and the late Mary Lou King Free of Habersham County. Mr. Free served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and retired in 1962 as Petty Officer 1st Class with 20 years of service. He moved to Florida in 1970 and retired in 2001 from the New Port Richey Public Works Department. Mr. Free was a member of the American Legion Post No. 79 and a member of New Providence Baptist Church in Cadley, Georgia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Free was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Klein Free; son, Benjamin E. Free, Jr. and siblings, Milton L. Free and Ellene Moore.
Survivors include his sons, Rickey John Free; daughter, Vicky Free Anderson both of New London, Connecticut; brothers, Dennis Free of Ft. Wayne, IN, James Donald Free of Warner Robbins, GA; sister, Imogene Free Franklin (Charles) of Mt. Airy, GA; nephew, Mickey Free of Norwood, GA; sister-in-law, Trudy Free of Norwood, GA; special friend, Barbara Jean Eaton of Warrenton, GA and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 o’clock p.m., Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Jones officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
