Mrs. Patricia Elizabeth White Smith, affectionately known as Patsy, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2024, at the age of 82 in Lincolnton, GA. Born on January 10, 1942, in McCormick, SC, she was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew her. Patsy's life was marked by her unwavering kindness, love, and an insatiable curiosity that made her a truly interesting individual.
Patsy's educational journey led her to Augusta College, where she earned a bachelor's degree with a major in psychology and a minor in sociology. Her passion for understanding the human mind and social interactions was evident in her approach to life and in her career. She retired from the Georgia Department of Labor, where she dedicated herself as a classroom teacher, training individuals for the workforce. Patsy's influence and guidance helped shape the careers and lives of countless individuals.
An active member of her community, Patsy contributed to the local scene with her writing for the McCormick Messenger. Her articles, often centered on local interest, showcased her love for her roots and her desire to preserve the community's history and stories. She was also an avid reader, a skilled seamstress, and an ardent lover of cats. These interests were threads woven into the fabric of her daily life, bringing joy not only to herself but also to those around her.
Patsy's legacy is carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Smith Mason of Lincolnton, GA; her sisters, Barbara Boyd (Charles) of Grovetown, GA, and Susan White of Plum Branch, SC; her granddaughters, Anna Mason and Amanda Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Lily Cullipher and Cash Harrison. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rueben Smith; her son, Clark Smith; her parents, Robert T. and Sara Seigler White; and her brother, William Alton White.
Those who knew Patsy will remember her as a kind and loving soul, a woman who approached every person and situation with a gentle heart and an open mind. Her presence was a gift to many, and her absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her.
As we bid farewell to Patsy, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with laughter, wisdom, and an abundance of love.
