Andrea Barbara Thompson, 82, Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on April 8, 2024.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 10, 1941 and grew up in New York.  After high school, Andrea earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing and joined the Army Nurse Corp.  After marrying Mr. Thompson, she was discharged from the army, so she could follow her husband to his duty stations before they settled in Thomson, Georgia in the early 1970s, and it was then that she began working for the Federal Government as a registered nurse with the VA Hospital in Augusta, Georgia for 53 years until she retired.  She had a gift for caring for others and loved spending time with her family and friends. Andrea served her country in the Army Nurse Corp.  She also enjoyed spending her time raising her cats and caring for her family.

Andrea is preceded in death by her parents, Anthony Surowitz and Anna Surlong Surowitz.  Her survivors include her devoted husband of 59 years, Garry Thompson; her son, Garry R. Thompson, II (Amber); her daughters, Katrina Thompson and Ranata Newsome (Ben); her brother, Anthony Surowitz; six grandchildren, Augustus, Cassidy, Carsyn, Erin, Chevelle and Isabella and three additional grandchildren by marriage.
